Let’s take a closer look at the differences between an AI-generated logo vs custom brand design by a professional designer in this case study for The Lime List Group.
Recently, we have seen a huge surge in AI exploration from our clients. They are using it for everything from writing email responses to creating vision boards for their rebrand. Which brings up a very valid question…
Can AI design my logo?
Short answer: Yes.
AI brings a powerful set of tools to the table for creative entrepreneurs and business owners of all industries, including design. But this isn’t the real question at all, is it? And if you’re considering the options for branding your business, a logo by itself certainly isn’t the answer.
The real question you need to answer
Just because a tool CAN do something does not mean it’s going to be the personality-packed, confidence-building design that will move the needle forward. Savvy business owners are making this distinction. In fact, when it comes to branding your business, it’s never about just a logo design. It’s about future-proofing your livelihood. Designing for your next chapter. A visual expression your dream.
So the real question becomes: What’s the right design solution to visually express your dream?
In this real case study for The Lime List Group, we’ll pull back the curtain on our custom brand design process and cover a few pitfalls of relying only on AI-generated design content.

The before: AI-generated logo and branding
Our long-time powerhouse client Kayla Adamson came to us for a custom brand identity for her next big adventure. After 10+ years of growing to become a Top 1% real estate agent in Brevard County, Florida, she was finally ready to open her own brokerage. Kayla knew she wanted to do something different in the industry — to redefine the landscape of Florida real estate. To achieve this, she knew she would need a brand identity with some personality and distinction.
At the start of the project, Kayla share a few vision boards that AI had generated for her.
- Awkward spacing between words
- Generic-looking clip art
- No application guidelines
- Basically zero personality

The custom brand design experience with a designer and where AI falls short
A big part of my task as a brand designer may surprise you. It’s to LISTEN. At the start of any project, I’m listening intently to my client’s needs, trying to understand what they may not be able to express in words. This is the highly intuitive piece that shapes the entire process, something that simply cannot be generated by AI. Let’s dive deeper into The Lime List Group branding.
The Challenge
Like many industries, the Florida real estate market is overly saturated. Kayla was eager to establish a set-apart brand that would truly stand out. Her vision was to create a stress-free experience founded on transparency and integrity, while embodying a relaxing playfulness that would set her brand apart in the overly stiff, competitive landscape of real estate. No key or house icons that you see everywhere. Something original and exciting.
The Creative Direction
Achieving that delicate balance between trustworthy professionalism and warm playfulness was our goal with the creative direction. The look and feel needed to be reflective of a top tier, high-achieving real estate team — so it couldn’t lean too playful. Yet at the same time, it needed to bring in a surprising zest and splash of fun. Below is the moodboard we created as part of her creative direction.

A few insights on color psychology that influenced the brand color palette:
- Dark Green: A grounding color that pulls in the trustworthy qualities of blue and speaks to inner strength and excellence
- Lime Green: This vibrant green adds a pop of color and is already used in Kayla’s coaching business, Stay Bossy Agents, so keeping this color visually connects the two entities.
- Mint Green: A complementary green that leans blue, pulling in relaxing and reassuring qualities
- Peach: A punchy color that adds warmth to the color palette and communicates confidence, care, and social connections
Tailoring the logo design for a one-of-a-kind wordmark
Now more than ever, a logo should feel distinct. Custom brand design should mean one-of-a-kind, and tailoring the font style to intimately align with the brand strategy is one way we like to achieve this. Let’s take a closer look at how we created an original brand identity for The Lime List Group.

Hand-drawn brand illustrations and graphics
To further differentiate the brand identity, we included a small collection of hand-drawn illustrations and patterns. These add another layer of personality and cohesion. Brand illustrations are often used as icons or accent details in digital and print advertising. In this case, the lime illustration also became part of the main logo and submark.
The brand patterns can be pulled in as backdrops on social media posts, the website design, and even stationery. With all the elements working together, we are able to achieve a truly unique and recognizable brand experience.

Implementation of the Brand Identity
What’s the use of having a bunch of random files without a vision on how to use them? Part of our custom process also includes instructing our clients on how to successfully apply their branding to create a cohesive experience.
One of the ways we do this is through our Brand Style Guide — a comprehensive Pdf guide that breaks down all the design assets from logo variations to color hex codes. This is a useful reference tool that provides clarity for both the business owner and any team members charged with the tasks of creating promotional material for the brand. Intuition — the essential piece missing from AI-generated design
Perhaps a complex topic for debate, but AI is no replacement for the strategic thinking and high-level creativity that comes from a human touch. Here at The Creative Accent, we believe our creativity is a God-given gift from the Creator Himself — an intuition to be cherished, cultivated, and gifted back to Him and the world around us in how we choose to use it.
The design process is full of intuitive decision-making. Intuition to pivot without a logical reason, simply because it feels right. A gut feeling to try the unexpected. Discernment to hear what isn’t being said.
Yes, AI can generate a logo, even an entire brand suite. There’s no question that AI is powerful. But don’t forget that AI is trained on what already exists. It does not create with the capacity for emotional depth and originality as a trained designer can. And isn’t that the whole point of custom brand design — originality? Connecting emotionally with your audience?
We are deeply honored when a business owner entrusts us with the task of bringing their dream into visual reality through custom design. We listen intently to our client’s needs and vision, not to create a list of deliverables. But to understand what they truly need even when they struggle to express it.
AI cannot do that.
